Sanjana Nuwan Bandara

The talented Sri Lankan singer and songwriter Ananda Nuwan Bandara started his career singing for movies. He is known as the best Sinhalese film score musician since the legendary H.R. Jothipala. He has been a part of over 400 films and had a career spanning almost three decades. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 53, while undergoing treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

Ananda was one of the most talented young artists in Sri Lanka. He was a talented singer and guitarist. In the early 2000s, he was working in the Fortunes band with Stanley Perera. His involvement with the band led him to meet famous musician Sarath Dassanayake. The two collaborated on many projects. In 2006, Ananda was invited to direct the music for a film called Durga. Later, he was also invited to direct the music for 16 films and television serials. He was also elevated to Assistant Music Director of Sarath Dassanayake's orchestra and started learning classical Eastern Music.

A few of Sanjana Nuwan Bandara films have been a hit. The first one, Vaishnavee, is a comedy film. It is also biographical, and is set in Sri Lanka.

His music career

Sanjana Nuwan Bandara first step towards a music career was playing guitar in Stanley Perera's Fortunes band. The experience turned out to be a turning point in his life. He met musician Sarath Dassanayake during this time and joined his orchestra. He performed on the Taj Mahalak song by H.R. Jothipala and was later promoted to Assistant Music Director. During this period, he also learned classical Eastern music.

His first recording was a cassette of four songs that he sang with Neela Wickramasinghe. The record was a commercial success. He was soon invited to sing playback singing for films, which led to his singing a duet with Shyami Fonseka in the film Mal Kekulu.

Performing Arts
