I understand that drift is a problem everyone is facing currently, but could someone please explain to me why we can't use the magnetometer to correct it?
In my application, the compass points in the real and virtual worlds need to remain in sync, or at least the synchronisation needs to recover quickly.
The issue I'm seeing is as follows:
- The user is facing North in the physical world. In the virtual world, they are also facing North. - The user looks around the virtual world for some time, before returning to their original view (North). - The user's view in the virtual world is North, but in the physical world they are now pointing West. The situation does not resolve itself (though given time the real and physical orientations may randomly come back into alignment).
I'm aware of Sephiroth's calibration script, but I don't think that would work in my situation (though it may make it work better for longer).
