CinemaVR possible featrues?

CinemaVR possible featrues?

by JustMeDaFaq on Jul 26th, 2014 10:47 AM

As said on another Topic, im working on my own cinema vr app.
Whats already done:

Supports for 2D/3D Movies & 360°videos
Movie Formats: mp4, 3gp,mkv,avi
3D Movie Formats: Side by Side, Over Under
Fast forward, rewind, pause, change seats, change 3D format <- alll ingame
Control without controller (like seen in goshow) or with controller
Change movie ingame (works with both methods, with and without controller)
always remember last movie playing position (so you can take a break when watching movies)
Support for vimeo (experimental yet but works very good)
Support for streamcloud (experimental yet but works very good)
Set Pupillary distance like mentioned here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2721
2 different cinemas

So, my question is, did you have some more features in mind?

And my other question, someone mentioned multiplayer, tho servers costs a lot. Someone think that a kickstarter would make sense?

I'll offer up my 2 cents. Right now the best 2 vr cinemas for android are goshow and cmoar virtual cinema. I forget the names, but oculus also has a few. One where they have multiple users in one theater, where they do karoke night and all kinds of cool stuff and another one whose designer was scooped up by the oculus team. I backed the goshow kickstarter (which failed) because his concept of custom theaters and his crazy artistic ability made me really exciting. Seriously, check out his concept for the ironman mansion theater. That would be incredible. However right now, all he has is a room that looks like a mini man cave. Cmoar seems to be the exact same thing, just in a much better theater. being able to change seats is awesome, and the sense of scale is much better. the screen feels big, compared to goshow's which seems bigger than my tv at home, but not movie theater big like cmoar. Neither of them have a great way for getting movies into the theater. supposedly you can setup an smb network and send files to cmoar that way, however I couldn't quite figure it out(which is probably just cause i'm an idiot). I definitely think streaming is the way to go.

The features on your app that look promising are in ability to change movies in game, and the support for vimeo and streamcloud. I also like the multiple theaters. A feature that I would personally love to see is xbmc integration. xbmc has a community of programmers who have already integrated youtube, vimeo, Netflix, plex, p2p stream, etc. they have it all. the app yatse even gives you the ability to control xbmc via your phone/voice. you can watch movies on your phone from xbmc or watch videos on xbmc from your phone. Basically the ability to stream all this content is already out there, and has a dedicated community. Getting the xbmc content to stream in a virtual movie theater would be pure heaven imo. Especially with the cinema experience addon http://youtu.be/2AJkWNEm4al

I mentioned the oculus theaters earlier for a reason. In September, Samsung is announcing(releasing?) their vr headset mount, which will presumably fit the s5 and probably the upcoming note4. They are working with Oculus. Oculus has the best vr guys in the world right now. Virtual Cinemas are great because they are a seated experience, they immediately convey what vr is and what its potential could be to non-gamers, and they aren't a game. Everyone has been to a movie theater. Google's cardboard had a youtube viewer. I have no doubts that Samsung is going to have a vr cinema app to launch with their headset. No offense to Dive, Cmoar, or any of the other ones that havev cropped up, but I'm guessing Samsung's is going to be cheaper and better. You may want to focus features based on that hmd. I saw photos saying its going to have some sort of controls on the side, which made negate the need for voice/controller commands.

Anyway, I really would love to see you, Cmoar, and Goshow combine your efforts and make an app that can stand toe to toe with whatever Samsung comes out with. and I also think getting with xbmc, which is a movie/tv watchers dream(the program has sbs 3d mode for Christ's sake!!) would help out exponentially. Good luck, and I'm eager to see what you come up with!!

Thats what i had in mind, Sam is a great artist, just not a programmer, contacted the guy behind GoShow when his kickstarter started for collaboration. Got no answer... Tho, also asked prosper games today if they wanna coorperate, would be cool since we got almost the same goals and we could pull all those features out much faster together.

Yeah, that was the idea for the multiplayer, wathcing movies together but also let them doing theyre own shows(ive saw the youtube comedy shows done in riftmax :D). Tho, its all about the money, i dont have a server for doing this right now, and since its just a hobby, i dont wanna pay a server. If someone may got a server and would sponsor some webspace&bandwitdh, contact me =) I will defeinetly have a look at the goshow iron man theatre :D Do you may have some more wishes for custom theatres?

XMBC sounds cool. Tho, never used it. Definetly going to set it as an goal, but dont expect it too soon, defenitley need some time to get in the source of xmbc. Im in contact with google, may im allowed to release the app with youtube support, cross your fingers. So you guys have at least one more sreaming service before im able to intergrate xmbc.

In the end, its all just a hobby, im not expect getting any money out of it. Ive bough GoShow, liked the idea, but wanted some more features, some diffrent locations and so on, cmoar wasnt theyre when i started the work. Thats why i started working on my own.

No idea if it's possible or not, but a live feed of Twitch streaming would be cool. Especially if Twitch supports Rift games.

Possibe? Yeah. Thought about it myself, since i like to watch ps4/xbox one streams on twitch. Theyres no official API but with some custom code, definetly. Should be somethng similiar to my custom youtube code. Tho, twitch just got bought by google and before implementing it, i want to wait whats google gonna change. Cause its anoying always have to fix streaming services(inevitable when using custom code, everytime they change theyre server code) before the app is even released. But its on my list =)

Added a savelist for streaming links, so you can now save up to 200 streaming movies and easily access them without searching for them over and over again when you wanna watch the movie/video again.

I need some opninions regarding an own integrated video service. Tho, since im a hobby programmer, i wont be able to pay licenses for big movies like hobbit or so, so this library would only cover movies licensed under CC or public domain (metropolis, bonanza, superman, some donald ducks are public domain and so on). Do you guys think that would be an great addition or its useless?

I think is a great idea. You could integrate your app with popcorn time, for example.

Integrating popcorn time is may illegal in my country, since it doesnt only offer CC Licensed or Public Domain movies.Thats why i added streamcloud support, so you guys are able to watch recent movies via stream, but without getting myself in legal trouble. My "own" video service would only cover those movies which are free CC or public domain. Dunno if someone is interested in such a (free) servcie :/

it would be a great idea to add the possibility of go back and forward with a bluetooth controller, not only with the virtual remote controller
