Durovis Dive Drift Issue

Durovis Dive Drift Issue

by StaticByte on Oct 15th, 2014 00:25 AM

Hello Everyone,

I'm a software engineer for a video game company and have been working with VR for a number of months now. I'm developing in C# using Unity and have stumbled onto a problem that there isn't an easy fix for. Being a frequent reader of the forums here, I have see many of you having a problem with the Durovis Dive SDK resulting in drifting of the camera. I have tested our game, that I built, on many android devices with varying amounts of drift.

Durovis Dive does have an auto-calibration which detects when the phone is laying still on a flat surface and can calculate the gyroscope offsets nicely.... BUT, for me anyways... It never uses them.

You have to click on the image to read all the comments

Why isn't DIVE able to locate the calibration.json that it saves with its own desired path? There is no intervention from myself in the saving and reading of this file. It also does contain the correct data as far as i can tell.

I don't have access to the Durovis Dive code so I cant go fix it myself and I don't really want to spend my time making an anti-drift system for the suffering devices if it is going to be fixed by Durovis anytime soon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and hopefully I can get a staff response.

Hey Jason,
i´m glad to hear that there are still other ones waiting for a plugin without the drift problem.
I have published a lot of vr games on google play store, and many users complain about the drift.
Did you get any response from the dev´s? There are no news about a plugin for long time now.
best regards,
Jan

Jan!

I was beginning to think no one was here anymore.

I was debating whether or not to start working on my own fix or just waiting for the plugin patch.

I would love to check out some of your Dive games on Google play. I just released our beta to see if I could get some feedback.
I'm still trying to figure out certain ways of doing things but its going well so far.

Unfortunately I haven't been contacted by any devs so far but I still have hope. I would love a news update on an update from them

Cheers,

- Jason

Hi guys!

I am new to the forums and have joined for this reason. I was wondering what sort of drift you guys are experiencing. I have a lock on my camera to stop it from actually moving along the x or z axis but it does go up and down the y. Anyway, I have found that at a certain point in my level, the view will lurch to the left as if I've turned my head. Needless to say, this causes a very uncomfortable feeling when wearing the goggles and also ruins the game.

Has anyone else had a similar sort of drift? Has anyone had any luck combating this?
