Seeing Double

My Durovis Dive 7 arrived today. However, no matter how I adjust the lenses I see two overlapping images. They won't separate far enough apart. I do have long vision so I may try some reading glasses later. I have looked up about IPD and the distance between my eyes is average so I don't see why the lenses feel like they're too close together (feels like I'm cross eyed) when they're at the widest setting. I have to get the lenses touching my eyes to nearly focus the screen. I'm using a Nexus 7 (2013 model).

I think Sascha already answered you via mail but here his answer in case other users have similiar problems:

Can you please try the Dive 7 with this app for example:

If this one will work, the problem has been the app you have tested before.

Due to the fact, that the center points of the two half displays have a different distance than the eye distance there has to be made a correction in the app otherwise it will not work.

Please let us know, if this has been the problem.

The coaster one works ok. The Dive Deep app does not. I think I will have to attach the flat sides of the lenses to the posts (whatever they're called ) as this will give me enough distance because the centre of the convex will be farther out (I'm no expert just throwing words around ). I tried this with tape and cardboard and it worked but it was a bit 'floppy'.

I had a home made HMD working okay with Trinus Gyre and Elite Dangerous but it was uncomfortable thus the purchase of the Durovis Dive 7. Hopefully I will get this solution to work and if so will let you know.

Hi!

We haven't updated Dive Deep to use our newest plugin yet, but it's on the list
In newer versions of the dive unity plugin something called "Off center projection" is included,
"where perspective's vanishing point is not necessarily in the center of the screen".
For the correct alignment of the lenses in Dive 7, you can refer to this picture:


For the correct settings of Trinus VR for Dive 7 you could load this custom profile,
or do it yourself by going to [Gears Symbol]>Advanced Mode>Video and setting up buttons for lens calibration.
After this you will be able to adjust the Screencenter positions with the first option and should try to get something like
that:

You could also wait for an update of Trinus since we talked to Xavier who will include a Dive 7 Profile in his next update.

Thanks for the reply and info. That's how I had the lenses set up. I wasn't unaware that the lens calibration needed the user to bind keys for it so I will try that first. If that doesn't work I am going to try and cut off most of the semi circle plastic from the posts where they encompass the rounded edge of the lens and leave a flat section that I can super-glue to the flat edges of the lenses (probably with another section of plastic between to form a straight edge 'sandwich). This way the curved edges of the lenses will face inwards and can be moved toward or away from the screen as usual. The lateral distance will no longer be restricted to the outermost face of the rounded edge as it will now be the flat edge facing outwards and the posts can be pulled further left and right. This will then let the convex at its broadest line up with the points on the left/right portions of the screen that couldn't be centred before.

Well, that's the plan
