Using a 2nd smartphone as a gamepad
Using a 2nd smartphone as a gamepad
by DurovisDiver on Jan 25th, 2014 12:30 PM
Hello guys,
I recently received my DurovisDive. Since there are a few games that require a gamepad, I was wondering if it is possible to use a second smartphone as a gamepad.
Is that possible if yes, what do I need for it?
I am using a Nexus 5 with the Dive.
I would be very happy I you help me.
Thank you.DurovisDiver

Yes, I tried it, but somehow it doesn't work.
Maybe I did something wrong. I did the following steps:
- Both smartphones are logged into the same WiFi connection
- I entered the IP of the phone which I want to use for the Dive into the "Gamepad" phone under "preferences"
- I started an app, e.g. VR MoonWalk or Winding Path
But I can't control anything with the Gamepad phone.
Can you spot my mistake?DurovisDiver

OK, that means for now I can only play games, which don't require a gamepad?
I tried using a PS3 controller with the Sixaxis app, but it doesn't work for me, because my N5 isn't rooted. Furthermore I tried a Wii nunchuck, with the Wiimote Control app, but it didn't work either, always an error message during conecting.DurovisDiver

Today I tried to connect a Xbox controller to my phone, but it didn't work either.
I somehow have the feeling that the gamepad doesn't receive enough power, because the Xbox sign isn't flashing.
Now I've tested the following things, but non of them worked:
- PS3 controller with sixaxis app (bluetooth and wired)
- Wii nunchuck with Wiicontrol app
- 2nd smartphone with OpenDive GDXControl
- wired Xbox controller
Bluetooth doesn't work, because my N5 isn't rooted, but I don't understand why the others won't work. The only last thing I can think of is that the OTG cable is broken.DurovisDiver

Hi guys,
I finally found the solution to my problem.
It is so simple. My OTG cable was broken. I bought a new one and lo and behold: It works.
Now I can enjoy and test all the games that require a gamepad.
Thanks to everybody who was trying to help me with my problem.
Greetings.DurovisDiver
