New Demo, my SciFi game

New Demo, my SciFi game

by madfortech on Jun 8th, 2014 21:28 PM

Hi everyone,

Here is a fps sci-fi demo I made, please be gentle with me as I'd never even seen a script until last week and I don't know the first thing about making games.
Anyway there's plenty stil to do but I thought I'd post what I've done so far. I intend on using blender to make the map a lot bigger and build from scratch, also at the moment the player doesn't take any damage and there's no death animation for the monsters but as I said I'm learning as I go.
Built from assets from the store and scripts I've found / learnt online.

Please let me know what you think and if it's worth expanding on.

Looks very good!!, I like the setting. And a horror survival is all ways fun.
I can't aim by looking, I can't turn around but that may be my contoller (greenthrottle)
But I think this has great potential! Add some form of story.. some background.. escape the ship/facillity because.. and to a escape pod or the outside world. And the m16 is cool but not so scifi.
Are the creatures alians or zombies.. if zombies maybe search for a serum and then escape.
Cool to see so much development last few days!!

Hi Nente002 ,

Thanks for the input, I have lots of additions planned so stay tuned!

I am using the Moga power pro controller. I have mapped the right stick to keyboard buttons so to turn you need to map your right stick to the keys j for left and L for right, this will rotate your characther :D

Really cool! keep working on this one, fun stuff!

one comment i would make is, the orientation seemed a little strange ..i'm use to walking in the direction i'm facing instead of having to pivot ... i guess if i configured my controller better it would be easy to get use to.

Hi Mark,

Really glad you like it, I wanted to make it a bit more sitting down friendly, also since in real life you don't necessarily walk where you look. I wanted to be able to look independently from the direction I was walking in.

Hey great start
The framerate is high enemies are scary and detailed. Sci fi setting iż awesome.

I think chat the best way to make game enjoyable in sitting mode is to
Keep aiming with head movemet like in quake2 but add option to turn with analog stick.

Is the game compatible with bluetooth keyboard now or gamepad?
I cannot make it work with snakebyte droid in gamepad mode and cannot acces ang
Menu to BIND keys in keyboard mode?

Anyways great!!! With SpaceDive this is the best thing being developer now!!!

Hi guys,

Ok I don't really know about the snakebyte droid controller, can it be setup to emulate keys? For the Moga power pro there is an app I downloaded which allows keyboard emulation. If not then I don't really know at this stage how or what to do about it but if you reply then I will start looking into it. The game is Bluetooth keyboard ready with the keys being a - left strafe, d - right strafe,w - forward, s - back, j - rotate left, l - rotate right, left cntrl - fire.
I will be updating tonight (hopefully if I can figure it out) with Thief666 suggestion of look to aim, also player health and damage, enemy respawn in waves and attack animation.

As always any suggestions are welcome , especially about how to work the snakebyte controller in or a way to map keys in the app :ugeek: :?:

hi, I can tell you how idroid map his left cross
the four buttons are mapped as joystick buttons 15 left, 16 down, 17 right and 18 up.
I have mapped this buttons in Unity Edit+ Project setting+Input as Jump, Fire1, Fire2 and Fire3.

and you can add a RHorizontal for unity Input, assigned type Joystick axis and Axis as 3rd axis, and HVertical as Axis 4rd axis, in this way, you can ask for RHorizontal and RVertical when need to know how right joystick is working.

I hope that this information can help.

Ok Guys here is an update for you, we now have look to aim, enemy attack and death animations and be cafefull as the player can now be killed! More in the pipeline, next up is player health bar and an expansion on the map size with more corridors linking to each other.
