Rapid prototyping encompasses a variety of technologies that enable the fast and efficient creation of prototypes and models. These technologies facilitate the iterative design process, allowing engineers and designers to quickly modify and refine their products.


Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) employs a laser to melt powdered materials, such as nylon, layer by layer, to form solid 3D objects. This technique begins with a thin layer of powder being laid on a build platform. The laser selectively sinters the powder in the desired areas, solidifying it, after which the platform is lowered, and another layer of powder is applied. This method is particularly advantageous for producing complex geometries and is widely used in both prototyping and production applications.

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) involves extruding a thermoplastic filament through a heated nozzle. The nozzle moves to deposit the melted material in precise locations, layer by layer. As the material hardens immediately upon cooling, this method allows for quick and effective prototyping. FDM is extensively used in mass production, particularly for household appliances, toys, and mechanical parts due to its high production efficiency and low unit costs.

Stereolithography (SLA)
Stereolithography (SLA) is one of the earliest 3D printing technologies, which utilizes a laser to cure liquid resin into solid plastic, layer by layer. The SLA machine reads a CAD file and traces the design with a laser, hardening the resin where it contacts the light. This technology is known for its precision and is commonly used for creating highly detailed prototypes.

Digital Light Processing (DLP)
Digital Light Processing (DLP) operates similarly to SLA but utilizes a digital projector screen to flash images of each layer simultaneously, rather than tracing each layer with a laser. This allows for faster layer solidification and overall shorter production times, making it a popular choice for producing prototypes with complex geometries.
