Cameras Rotating Left/Right without head movement

Cameras Rotating Left/Right without head movement

by TSLoire on May 13th, 2015 18:45 PM

Hey guys,

I've been using the Dive for the last week and I think it's fab. I've made my own Gyro controllers and used other people's in the past, but the Dive has somehow reduced lag a whole lot when turning your head about.

I do have a problem though, and that is, when I move my head left and right and stop moving my head, sometimes the movement still continues. Or I'll be keeping my head perfectly still and yet the camera looks left or right. I must reiterate, my head is -not- moving at all, I had a colleague of mine watch my head very closely whilst I put my head on my hands just to make it less moveable. Has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be happening? Have I missed something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, apologies in advance if I've missed out a really obvious step or something! Cheers!

Hi!

The gyroscope drift issue is well known and on some phones more extreme than on others.
Which phones did you use for testing?

For example, the Samsung S4 is one of the worsts when it comes to gyro drift..
Because of that, we included an automatic callibration, which works by laying your phone on a flat ground / holding your head very still for 10 to 20 secs.
It works pretty good on most phones, but if you shake the phone pretty hard or (on a Samsung S4) restart your app, you have to do it again (we also save the callibration and get constant gyroscope offsets on nearlly any phone, except S4...)

Hi Torben! Sorry for the late reply!

We are currently using an iPhone 6+ for testing and building. Is the automatic calibration included in all versions of your plugin or just for certain versions of Unity? I am using Unity 4.6.5f1, can I use it? I will look into how to do the automatic calibration now, but any additional information you could give me would be very useful!

Thanks for the help Torben :)

Hi!

No problem :)

Auto-Calibration should be included in all releases since september 2014 as far as I remember.
The newest version of the dive sdk (2.1.2) didn't work with < Unity 5, last time I checked (4.6.3f1).
If this should also be the case for Unity 4.6.5f1 you could download the older 2.0 version from

When you are in a public space and want to take pictures of the people you are with, it can be difficult to find your bearings. You have probably noticed that sometimes when you rotate the camera left or right without moving your head, best assignment writing service will look good because they're not rotating properly. This post is going to go over how this happens and what we can do about it!
